A Holistic Approach to Skin Wellness

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of discussing common skin conditions with a group of incredible women! As we explored the underlying causes, we found a common thread connecting conditions like acne, psoriasis, and eczema: irregularities in the nervous system and immune system, along with excess inflammation. Whether it's dry skin, rosacea, or oily skin, these issues often stem from one or more of these root causes.

Acne played a significant role in my journey toward healing, prompting many to ask me, "Why am I suddenly dealing with acne, and what can I do about it?" To address the first part of the question, simply put acne doesn't care about your age, gender, or race. It's a signal from your body that something internally needs attention. Root causes like gut imbalances, hormonal shifts, and unresolved emotions are key factors to address in tackling acne.

For immediate relief, it's crucial to check your skincare, haircare, home cleaning, and makeup products for non-pore-clogging (non-comedogenic) ingredients that won't upset your hormonal (endocrine) balance. While "clean" products often steer clear of endocrine-disrupting ingredients, they might still contain pore-clogging ones. Clear Steam Skincare offers a handy Pore-Clogger Checklist where you can input your product's ingredients to identify any potential issues. Remember, we're all bio-individuals, so what works for one person might not for another. Our sensitivity levels, tolerance, and resilience play a significant role.

In addition to skincare, it's essential to opt for clean, toxin-free alternatives for various household items that could aggravate acne, and other skin issues, and contribute to various root causes of disease. These items range from candles, room sprays, and perfumes to makeup, lotions, deodorant, and other personal care products like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothpaste. Even household cleaners and cooking pans should be chosen with care to avoid harmful chemicals - consider ceramic, stainless steel, or cast iron. Watch out for stain-resistant couches, plastic bags, wraps, aluminum foil, and more, as they can also contribute to skin conditions and major health concerns.

I share this list not to instill fear, but to raise awareness about the toxins and chemicals we encounter daily! My hope is for women to gradually make their lives less toxic. It won't happen overnight, and yes, it can feel overwhelming. But every day presents an opportunity to choose a less toxic path. When you run out of a product or consider buying a new one, pause and ask yourself: is this product filled with chemicals that could harm my body? If yes, can I find a safer alternative? If not, is there another aspect of my life where I can reduce toxicity to balance it out? For example, while I still enjoy getting my nails done for the joy it brings, I've opted not to color my hair, reducing my exposure to harmful toxins. It's about making mindful choices to prioritize our health and well-being.

This also applies to the people we surround ourselves with—our intimate partners, family members, friends, co-workers, and even our work or home environments. Those who drain our energy, take more than they give and hinder our growth can be just as toxic, or more, to our well-being as the products we encounter daily. No amount of detox protocols for parasites, bacteria, mold, or heavy metals can restore balance if we're constantly exposed to toxic individuals and environments. Prioritizing positive relationships and nurturing supportive environments is vital for maintaining our nervous system and energy levels.

With support,
Isabella
