Unveiling Health Secrets: Insights from My Health Journey (part two)

In my previous post, I discussed three habit changes that have significantly impacted my health journey: prioritizing sleep hygiene, weightlifting, and practicing meditation. As promised, I'm now excited to share my top three products/supplements. However, your health journey is extremely individual! It's important to note that what works for me may not work for everyone, and I always recommend seeking guidance from a functional health practitioner, like myself, to tailor your approach.

First up is bone broth, a powerhouse of essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. Amino acids are vital for muscle growth, hormone production, maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails, and more. Additionally, bone broth aids in repairing damaged gut linings, known as leaky gut, making it an excellent source of protein and gut support.

Next, let's talk about mineralized sea salt, such as Redmond's Real Salt or Celtic Sea Salt. Unlike common table salt, which is often refined and stripped of essential minerals, these natural salts can contain over 60 naturally occurring trace minerals. Sodium is crucial for hydration and electrolyte balance in the body. Our society has demonized salt but salt is highly processed and treated with chemicals. Few individuals are getting enough clean, unrefined sodium leading to dehydration, muscle cramps, kidney stress, electrolyte imbalance, and more.

The third product on my list is Inositol, specifically the brand Theralogix's Ovasitol. I've been using this supplement since 2018 to manage irregular blood sugar and insulin resistance. Inositol plays a vital role in regulating hormone levels, insulin sensitivity, ovarian function, and more. It has been instrumental in addressing issues like irregular periods, weight fluctuations, and glucose imbalances while incorporating many lifestyle changes.

Now, let's shift our focus to clean skincare and makeup. Over time, I've transitioned to using products free of chemicals and toxins to minimize the amount of toxins I am exposed to and the overall damage of the buildup. One brand I highly recommend, especially for those not prone to acne, is Primally Pure. Their products, like the cleansing oil for normal skin, are free of endocrine-disrupting toxins and chemicals, which can interfere with hormonal balance and more. While some ingredients in their products may exacerbate acne, I've found that Primally Pure's normal cleansing oil works well for my acne-prone skin. Products, devoid of endocrine disruptors, enhance overall skin health without interfering with my essential bodily systems.

Lastly, I swear by Beekeeper's Propolis Immune Spray for immune support. Since incorporating this spray into my daily routine, coupled with deeper healing practices, I've noticed a significant reduction in illness. I spray 1-2 times daily, almost every day, and I wholeheartedly endorse it to everyone I know, including those with children, as there's a child-safe version available. Propolis, in case you're unfamiliar, is highly regarded in many countries as a natural immune booster and supplement with potent antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, among others. It’s extracted from the section of the beehive where eggs are developing. Bees diligently maintain this area to ensure it's clean and conducive to egg growth, making propolis a natural solution for everyday exposures. Personally, it has saved me from falling ill on multiple occasions!

Rapid fire thoughts on products I am often asked about:

  • Probiotics: While beneficial for some not necessary for all, quality matters, and it's essential to test before choosing a brand. Look for spore-based probiotics for long-term benefits.

  • Adaptogens: I'm a fan of adaptogens but recommend starting with general types (like ashwaganda) if you haven't assessed your adrenal health.

  • Protein powder: Opt for clean products with minimal ingredients, as quality matters you will likely end up paying more ($$$)

  • Pre-workout powder: Exercise caution, especially if dealing with adrenal issues, as they can spike cortisol levels and contain sweeteners and additives.

  • Aminos powder: Check for quality ingredients and consider lower sugar or natural sweetener options for muscle support and recovery.

With support,
Isabella
